Organisation:BiodivERsA, URban Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (URBES)
The European URban Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (URBES) projects translates science into action for cities, bridging the knowledge gap on the role of urban biodiversity and ecosystem services for human well-being. It aims to inform urban management and decision-makers on how to best integrate the natural environment and human needs.
The winners of the first BiodivERsA Prize for Excellence and Impact, which recognizes excellent, pioneering research performed in URBES, was awarded the opportunity to present their work in an animated video entitled “What’s the role of nature? Scientists at the URBES project inspire sustainable urban planning for people and nature”. The project demonstrated, for the first time at this scale, the importance and value of ecosystem services and nature-based solutions provided by urban biodiversity in European cities, enabling authorities to work with these concepts part of their urban planning strategies.
- Acknowledges and highlights the quality of the project’s research findings and engagement work.
- Gives a concrete example of BiodivERsA’s approach to promoting scientific excellence hand in hand with policy and societal relevance.
- Showcases the added-value of European and international research projects.
