2016 Report on the State of the Environment in China

2016 Report on the State of the Environment in China gives a summary of environmental protection status in China. It provides information on atmospheric, freshwater, marine, forest, acoustic, radiation, grassland, and natural and ecological environment. The current state of the energy and transport sector, as well as the state of the climate and natural disasters, are also included in this report.

With the launch of three major campaigns of prevention and control of pollution, China has carried out the Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Air Pollution in Beijing -Tianjin-Hebei Region (2016-2017). The optimization and adjustment of energy structure have been promoted, the replacement of coal with electricity or gas and the phase-out of less than 10T/h coal-fired boilers have been speeded up. The coal-fired units of 440 million kW have undergone technical reform for ultra-low emission, taking up 47% of gross installed capacity for coal-based power. The action plan had been made to cut down on VOCs in key sectors. The technology of clean production has been introduced to 11 key industries with the focus on petrochemical industry. Overall, the report provides data on the status of the environmental quality in China and explains the measures implemented to improve the quality of water, air, soil, and aforementioned sectors.
