Stephan Sicars is Managing Director of the Environment and Energy Directorate at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). In this role, Stephan is spearheading the organization's efforts on circular economy, and oversees the implementation of projects covering subjects including cleaner production, water, the management of persistent organic pollutants as well as mercury, and emission reduction of non-CO2 climate gases as well as phase-out of ozone-depleting substances.
For ten years, Stephan was a Senior Programme Officer with the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer on policy and programme development. Prior to joining the Multilateral Fund, he worked for a number of years in research, facilitated technology transfer and participated in a number of international technical panels and task forces.
Stephan holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Hanover University with specialization in energy- and process engineering.
