On 13 October 2022 (14:00-15:30 GMT), the African Development Bank, Potomoac Group and WWF will host a virtual event for the launch of their new report "Debt-for-Nature Swaps: Feasibility and Policy Significance in Africa's Natural Resource Sector."
The impacts of COVID-19 have creased the volatility of African country markets where high levels of debt are increasing the vulnerability of many; the pressure of debt service on sovereign balance sheets is a hindrance to growth. The report puts finance mobilization for nature-positive investments and sustainable development on the agenda, highlighting the opportunities and financial advantages that a nature-centred approach and innovative debt approaches could bring.
The launch of the report will be followed by a high-level panel discussion on recommendations drawn from the research and a review of ways to achieve more sustainable financing for African countries, while advancing climate and nature goals at the same time. The objective is to inform participants on climate and nature-based debt transactions as an innovative financing tool for Africa's sustainable development.
